Anime (pronounced /ˈænɪmeɪ/ ), in the English speaking world, refers to cartoons from Japan. It is a loanword from the Japanese word アニメ short for animation (アニメーション). Contrary to popular belief, the drawing style does not define the term, nor does all anime (or manga for that matter) share a common drawing style.

Many Web sites are devoted to Anime. Anime is the prevalent style in Japanese Comic Books or Manga. In Japan, the Comic Book (or Manga) is a popular form of entertainment for adults as well as for younger audiences. Story lines are often very sophisticated and complex and extend into episodic series. Typical Anime themes or genres include Ninja and other Martial Arts; the Supernatural or Horror Story; the Romance; and Science Fiction including Robots and Space Ships.

Variations of Anime called Hentai are sexually-oriented. Doujinshi is the term for "Autonomous Comics," or Comics written and distributed by independent and often amateur devotees of Anime (The Fans).

A List of Commonly Used Players
Recommended
;Media Player Classic (MPC):This player is included in CCCP. It is recommended that you use this player, however it must be configured correctly. Refer to this guide.

;Zoom Player:This player is included in CCCP, may have playback issues in Vista. Very nice, relatively easy to use interface. Do not download the Professional versions, download the standard edition. The professional versions are trials, they stop working after a while. Has an installation center that installs all CCCP codecs for you.

Acceptable
;ALLPlayer:This player will utilize CCCP, but has a confusing interface and useless features. It is also rather homely.

;Coreplayer:Developed by the same team that developed the CoreAVC codec. It does not uililize CCCP, meaning it only uses internal filters. Also it will not render subtitles.

;JetAudio Player:

;Konqueror Media Player (KMPlayer):Good player, but may change font of subtitles during playback. Utilizes internal codecs.

;MPlayer:This player only utilizes internal codecs & filters. It will play videos as well as CCCP can, but the keyboard orientated interface can be confusing to people used to menu driven players.

;The Core Media Player (TCMP):Not to be confused with the Coreplayer (see above). It will work fine if you don't use the included filters.

;WinAmp 5:Will work fine if configured correctly. Subtitles must be loaded manually.

;Windows Media Player:Not to be confused with Media Player Classic (see above). Will play fine, but will sometimes crash. Various other issues.

Not Recommended
;BSPlayer:We don't suggest anyone uses this player. It is filled with bugs.

;DivX Player:This player is semi-compatible with CCCP. It will play MKV, OGM, and MP4 files, but it cannot play audio files. Not recommended for use. Tends to pixelate the image in certain instances.

;FFPlayer:Doesn't utilize vsfilter.

;QuickTime:Will play AVI and MP4 files (depends on installed QT codecs), but cannot handle MKV or OGM files. Ignores CCCP. To play QuickTime files, it is recommended that you use the QT Alternative which works in conjuction with Media Player Classic.

;RealPlayer 10:Loads CCCP with AVI files, but won't load MKV or OGM files. To play Real files, it is recommended that you use the Real Alternative which works in conjunction with Media Player Classic.

;VLC Media Player:This player supports nearly every media filetype one may encounter, but is not recommended for use. It does not utilize external codecs and has a slow, buggy interface. It also does not render subtitles correctly. Only recommended to keep around as a last-ditch effort for playing stubborn video files.
Windows
Please keep in mind that all solutions for the following problems assume that you have CCCP installed on your computer.

;I tried playing a video and the sound is awful! However, nobody else has complained...:
Run CCCP configuration again, and select an audio setting that best fits your speakers. You'll most likely have a 2.0 set-up. Select your speaker configuration from the drop down box on the first page of the CCCP Settings window. Screenshot
* True multi-channel sound can only be obtained with proper physical speaker configuration. Even if you have a 5.1 system, running a normal 3.5mm stereo output from your computer to it will only deliver 2.0 output.

;Why is the sound and video not synced in my h264 file?:
Stolen from Psyren's H.264 Guide

This guide is intended for use by those who are currently using the latest CCCP (version 2008-1-24 as of this guide). For those who are not using it, find a way to disable your codec pack's h264 decoder.

;Some preliminary steps:
# Using Windows Media Player or VLC makes this guide pointless. I recommend Media Player Classic (included in the CCCP), or the newer Media Player Classic Home Cinema (google 'MPC HC').
# Free up your RAM. A lack of free RAM has been known to cause streaming problems between your HDD and CPU when playing video on older PCs, made all the worse by the CPU barely being able to keep up. Download FreeRAM XP Pro and run it to clear some free space in your memory before attempting to play the video.
# This is sort of a 'last resort' step, since it removes some of the eye candy that soft subs can provide. Pre-buffer the subtitles. This will cause special effects such as fading or dynamic resizing to not display, but it will remove a fair amount of laggy spots on h264 video. To do so, go to your CCCP start menu folder -> Filters -> VSFilter configuration. Go to the Misc. tab and check 'Pre-buffer subpictures'. Alternatively, if (for what ever reason) you use MPC's subtitle renderer, then go to MPC's options menu, click on the Subtitles option on the left side and make sure 'Number of subpictures to buffer ahead' is not set to 0. I have no idea what a good figure might be, as I've never had to use that option, but the default value is 3.

Now, onto the main part:

;Step 1:
* Go to your CCCP start menu folder, and click on the settings icon. Uncheck the 'h264' button, then click Next -> Apply. You MUST do this step first in order for the next to work.

;Step 2:
* Find and install CoreAVC Professional. Google (amongst other resources) is your friend here.

* Verify that playback will use the h264 codec you just installed instead of using ffdshow by playing a h264 video in MPC. If successful, the ffdshow video icon will not show up in your taskbar. Done.

* Test out this fix with the Kanon 2006 OP upscaled to 1080p. More HD videos available from THORA's website.

If, after applying these 'fixes', your PC is still unable to play SD h264 encodes, then it's definitely time for a new PC or an upgrade. Remember, it's not the codec at fault, it's your PC. Don't complain to us that the PC you bought when the Beatles were around can't handle it.

*The AVI file uses DivX or XviD for its video track and you do not have a DivX codec installed. To resolve this, install Perian Quicktime Components.
*Your AVI file is one of the rare videos that Quicktime/Perian will not play for some reason. The solution to this problem is to play the video with one the standalone video players listed at Mac Video Playback.

;I have Perian installed, but MKV video files are either associated with a non-QT player or are not associated with any player at all. How can I fix this?:
By default, Quicktime Player cannot open MKV files. Because of this, even when Perian is installed, it will not show up as an application that is capable of opening MKV files. To fix this, first install Perian's Type Installer. If MKV files are still not associated with QT Player after that, use File > Get Info on any MKV file in the Finder, change its association in that window, and click "Change All...".

Don't complain to us that the PC you bought when the Beatles were around can't handle it.

;I hear dual audio playing in both languages!:
# Before anything, close the video.
# Get into the audio codec's settings. Programs -> Combined Community Codec Pack -> Filters -> FFDShow Audio Decoder Configuration.
Clients features more than just what the lib it's based on features. I don't know who moved rTorrent to recommended but only Vuze and uTorrent is recommended by the staff of BoxTorrents, if my memory serves me. This may be a wiki but I don't like people making decisions based on only their own experiences, which involves a bigger part of the community. Can someone who actually have used these applications (Transmission and rTorrent) write the pro's and con's about them, so we can decide which to put under recommended. I don't like the fact with rTorrent that it's terminal based as I think all recommended must at least have a GUI for easier control of the applications, since not everyone on Linux use terminal often. --Deimon 05:55, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
I would like to notify all people concerned with Shareaza that they're making a new client, It's very much and alpha and crashes alot, but the team is taking shareazaV2's code and re-formulating it from the ground up. It doesn't need to be included yet, but watched at the very least. http://www.pantheraproject.com/
Shareaza is a bad client because the upload is very low ;)

There's a new client called Halite that looks to be 'the next uTorrent'. Also worth keeping an eye on.
Kanzar 10:29, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Read about it in TorrentFreak a while back... Tested it but it's not as small as they said (RAM usage, it's not less than uTorrent, which they state), and the scan for how much percent completed you have of one torrent takes a long time. Sorry, forgot to add my byline :P. --Deimon 23:44, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

A BitTorrent Client is computer software that utilizes the BitTorrent P2P protocol to download and upload data. The original BitTorrent client was released in 2002 by Bram Cohen. Since then, many different clients have developed, all of which are at least partially based on the original BitTorrent client.

A BitTorrent Client is computer software that utilizes the BitTorrent P2P protocol to download and upload data. The original BitTorrent client was released in 2002 by Bram Cohen. Since then, many different clients have developed, all of which are at least partially based on the original BitTorrent client.

Anime (アニメ pronounced /ˈænɪmeɪ/ ) is a term for a style of Japanese Comic Book and Video Cartoon Animation in which the main characters have large Doe-Like Eyes. Foils for the Main Characters, including Robots, Monsters, or just plain bad people, often but not always, lack the Doe-Eyed quality.

Variations of Anime called Hentai are sexually-oriented. Doujinshi is the term for "Autonomous Comics," or Comics written and distributed by independent and often amateur devotees of Anime (The Fans).

Everything BoxTorrents are about is anime/manga related stuff, right? And for that the users only need a minimal pack as CCCP. And as it's stated under CCCP, it's only reason for existing is to give people watching anime a useful codec pack without the use of extensive codec packs as K-Lite. Further on, since the majority of the fansubs groups only recommend CCCP I believe that BoxTorrent should follow this as well. And remember, nothing deserves to be entitled Recommended just because one user likes it. To be entitled Recommended we need to seriously debate if it deserves it. --Deimon 18:02, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

I do not see why Recommended was removed from K-Lite. K-lite has served me for years and has worked without error and is combined with WMPC makes it one of the best codec pack. If you only beef with it is that it says mega pack then just make it be titled " K-Lite ".
Mur 14:18, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

I removed Recommended from K-Lite Mega Codec Pack. I can understand why the Lite pack would be recommended but not the Mega Codec Pack since it has a ton of unnessesary codecs. Deimon 13:00, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

I'm not changing this right now, 'cause I don't want to start an edit war or anything, but MPlayer is only "acceptable"? It uses its own codec tree without polluting your installation! That's a big plus, right there. Joystick interface, infa-red remote control, unparalleled keyboard control... And there's been a user friendly Windows GUI version out for some while now. So, gimme some good arguments why it shouldn't go under "good" or perhaps "一番". iddqd

I think it's important to list the different methods for package managers, it helps Linux n00bs figure out the system they use, it's very encouraging.
-->
MPlayer
Installing MPlayer
Perform the one of the following commands as root, depending on your distribution.
Gentoo
emerge -ptva mplayer
OpenSuse
opensuse-package-manager-name --install-command mplayer
Debian based distributions (Includes Ubuntu!)
apt-get install mplayer
Fedora/Red Hat based distributions
yum install mplayer

MPlayer codecs
Not all distributions include the full set of mplayer codecs. To install the full set follow these easy (for Linux-users!) steps.
1. Download: http://www4.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releases/codecs/all-20071007.tar.bz2
2. Extract with: tar xvf all-20071007.tar.bz2
3. Copy the codecs (but not the directory) to the MPlayer codec directory. Default is /usr/lib/win32
MPlayer tweaks
These are some sample config files tailored for specific preferences. The MPlayer configuration file can be found at: (~/.mplayer/config)

For English audio preference, then Spanish (?? Correct if wrong, delete this part otherwise.), with 4 audio channels for surround sound files.
vo=xv
ao=alsa
channels=4
alang=en,es

For Japanese audio preference, subtitles on. SDL A/V output for performence.
ao=sdl
vo=sdl
#Note: SDL video output does not work well with xinerama. Those wishing to watch video on a TV or other display should use "vo=xv"
alang=jpn,Japanese
#Not all files use the correct tags, so sometimes it will be neccisary to switch audio streams manually or from the command line with "-aid x", where "x" is the number of the audio stream.
sid=0
subfont-autoscale=1
ass=1

SMPlayer
MPlayer by itself is fine but SMPlayer provides an easy to use interface to MPlayer so it is a better choice for most. It contains a couple of nice features, including autosaving the playback position so you can continue watching your movie the next time you start it (this feature can be disabled of course).

Installing SMPlayer
*For OpenSUSE users you can grab the .rpm from SMPlayer's website, for Ubuntu users you can use the .deb from SMPlayer's website or you can install it with the following command:
sudo apt-get install smplayer
*If you don't use OpenSUSE or Ubuntu then you can compile from source, the source code along with installation instructions are available on SMPlayer's website.
*After installation you'll need to configure it a little:
Start SMPlayer, open the options (Ctrl + P), go to the subtitles section, within the section go to the SSA/ASS library tab and check the check box for using SSA/ASS library. With this you can see the subtitle's colors and fonts (Note: the used fonts must be installed on the system for this).

SMPlayer tweaks
If you see a black screen at playing, or the colors doesn't seems to be right, or the playing is too slow or wrong you may need to change the video rendering mode. To do this go to the options, general section, general tab, output drivers, Video, and set it to x11 - this will use software rendering. Alternatively you can use xv for XVideo rendering or either gl or gl2 for OpenGL rendering. In general you should try these options in the following order for best quality and performance: xv, gl2, gl and finally x11.

Correct if wrong, delete this part otherwise.), with 4 audio channels for surround sound files.
vo=xv
ao=alsa
channels=4
alang=en,es

For Japanese audio preference, subtitles on. SDL A/V output for performence.
ao=sdl
vo=sdl
#Note: SDL video output does not work well with xinerama. Those wishing to watch video on a TV or other display should use "vo=xv"
alang=jpn,Japanese
#Not all files use the correct tags, so sometimes it will be neccisary to switch audio streams manually or from the command line with "-aid x", where "x" is the number of the audio stream.
sid=0
subfont-autoscale=1
ass=1
